Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an AIDP - acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, an autoimmune disease affecting the peripheral nervous system. It is usually triggered by an acute infectious process. GBS is frequently severe and usually exhibits as an ascending paralysis noted by weakness in the legs that spreads to the upper limbs and the face along with complete loss of deep tendon reflexes.

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)

In Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) the patient suffers from a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) for an unknown cause (idiopathic). As most causes appear to be related to antibodies against platelets, it is also known as immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura. Although most cases are asymptomatic, very low platelet counts can lead to a bleeding diathesis and purpura.
